*lightly*
lube the hammer strike and where the slide contacts the body using
silicone oil (so the paint adheres less) then shoot off a clip full or
two.
- prep the plastic surface with "3M" brand scuff pads (I use the red
ones) by scuffing throughly all the surface you want painted. Smooth is
bad!
- Get a rag soaked (but not dripping wet) with rubbing alcohol and
clean all the scuffed areas (careful not to wipe the oil off the slide
and hammer contacts) and dry throughly (canned air / sunlight / heat
lamp) helps a bit)
- tape up and / or remove what you don't want painted (grips, optics,
etc) then using several *light* coats of "Krylon" brand (or "Krylon
Fusion" for plastic, have not used that yet maybe better?) paint on one
side on cardboard then flip when dry and do the other side. If you are
doing a camo look use the lightest color as the base color.
The most common mistake is making a layer too thick and it jams up the
slide or hammer so practice on some scraps before spraying the real
deal, light coats are *really* light and should dry in 5 mins in the
sun, should take at least 6 ~ 8 coats for full coverage. Also don't
spray directly "into" the slide or hammer mechanism you want minimum
coverage in those areas.
I lucked out last week and noticed depot53.com had a sale on Cybergun /
KWC panther arms A15 and M16 they were $30 and $40 respectively but they
are clear as well so at half price I could not refuse so I am
considering the camo look on those using tiger stripe templates I hope
they arrive Monday or Tuesday.
